Maybe Ford dropped the ball with the 1.8 TDCI in some respects but there are many people who are happy with the unit. I know Ford have had problems with some of their own diesel units and have taken steps to rectify this (e.g. in the 2007 mondeo the Ford 2.0 TDCI was replaced by the PSA 2.0 HDI as found in the Mark 2 Focus).

The car is not starting, and it was shut down until driving. The DTC I got in the ecu is P1664 and P1564. They are related to the HP fuel pump electronic I assume.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help with this. I have searched on Google and found stuff similar, but nothing that exactly describes my issue. Some have been close, but answers have been spark plugs etc and being a diesel it doesn't have any. My focus 1.8 TDCI has been bang on since I got it
I have a ford focus 1.8 tdci 115ps year 2002. There are a couple of problems with it. when starting from cold the engine ticks over normally but when i start to drive it seems to miss fire until the engine warms up a little. The colder the weather the worse the problem. I changed glow plugs but it made no difference. Sorry for late update. Major breakthrough, or so i thought. Unplugged electrical connection (1 of 2) on side of pump. Software then showed zero fuel pressure. It's a 2008 2.0 TDCi Titanium Estate on 100k miles. What attracted me to it was its condition and service history where up to 82k it has full Ford history under one owner. Unfortunately the last 18k (on owner number 2) is undocumented. Testing the car on purchase day though it pulled well, handled well and idled smoothly.
Dodgy throttle position sensor matey. You need to buy and fit a new accelerator pedal assembly from Ford. Around £65 and a ten minute job to change. 3 10mm nuts hold pedal to the car. You'll find it easier to use a deep socket. Remove these, the pedal lifts out. Disconnect the multi plug.
